1. Cycling

At number 1, cycling on Texel. With over 140km of cycle track, you can cycle to your heart’s content. Through the dunes, woods, villages, across the dyke and past Texel’s numerous sights. You can bring your own bike or hire one at the many bike hire shops. And sporty cyclists can really cut loose on the dedicated all-terrain trails. Read more

2. Texel Air Show

The Texel Air Show takes place every 3 years. In 2018, it’s that time again, with all kinds of planes, helicopters and fighter jets being shown at Texel International Airport on 4 August. Roughly 300 planes took part in the most recent show 3 years ago. From antique to modern-day civilian and military planes, you can admire them all at the Texel Air Show! 

3. Beach & sea

Texel is, of course, known for its long, vast sandy beaches. With lots of space for everyone, even on a gorgeous summer’s day. For building sandcastles, flying kites, sand yachting or relaxing in the sun. Prefer being active in the water? Kitesurfing, surfing and wind surfing are popular water sports on Texel. And afterwards, you can swap stories at one of the many cosy beach pavilions! 

4. Texel craft beer

Texel has its own brewery with many types of beers. All of these beers are brewed on Texel, using Texel ingredients. You can book a tour at the Texel brewery to discover how Texel beer is brewed and, of course, have a little taste. 

5. Charming villages

There are 7 lovely, special villages on Texel. From the touristy seaside resort of De Koog to the fishing village of Oudeschild. Each has its own charm and unique sights. And they all offer a wide variety of events. From summer markets, autumn markets, Christmas markets to car boot sales and various festivals. There is always something going on at the villages! 

6. De Slufter

De Slufter is a stunning nature reserve you simply must see during your visit to Texel! This nature reserve is directly connected to the North Sea. The walking area is ever-changing, at low tide it looks very different from how it does at high tide. During a strong north-westerly storm, the area is sometimes completely flooded. Many different kinds of salt-water plants grow in De Slufter. It is a haven for summer birds and in De Slufter trench, you can see crabs, jellyfish, shrimps and flatfish. 

7. Beach Food Festival

This year, the annual Beach Food Festival takes place from 20 to 22 July incl. During this festival at the small sandy beach of Waddenstrand at Oudeschild, you can chill out, feet in the sand, as you enjoy wonderful music, local dishes and drinks. 8. New TESO ferry

In 2017, Texel got a new ferry for the ferry service between Den Helder and Texel. A short ride on this stunning new ship is a wonderful start to your holiday! 

9. Ecomare

Ecomare is a m ultipurpose centre dedicated to the Wadden and North Sea. Ecomare is home to several nature and wildlife attractions and sanctuaries, including a nature museum, seal sanctuary, bird sanctuary, dune park and observatory. At Ecomare, you can see all kinds of animals such as baby seals, porpoises, birds, fish, insects and many more! 

10. Cuddling lambs

Texel is, of course, known for the many sheep on the island. In spring, it’s incredibly fun to cycle across the island and watch the little lambs gambolling in the fields. But it’s even more fun to cuddle them. Schapenboerderij Texel welcomes many new-born lambs every year. Here at the sheep farm, they have created a small corner made from bales of hay where you can enjoy cuddling the little lambs.
