Walking on Texel: panoramic views; a varied, rich natural landscape; wonderful, peaceful trails. The landscape changes from dunes to beach, marshes, heathland and woodland. It’s fun to map out a nice walking route before you set out, but you don’t really need to. Texel has many signposted trails, with a vast network of footpaths running through the dunes and woods. Or how about a lovely beach walk? Enjoy the most beautiful walks on Texel, straight from the parks of De Krim!
Here you will have a wonderful sense of solitude. Hiking for hours along mysterious overgrown paths, chirping birds, lakes with ingenious fish ladders, you may pass an abandoned bunker and, of course, the endless expanse of sand from which the dunes evolved. All this time, you may not see another living soul. Nature rules here. De Hors is the best place to get lost.

The north of Texel used to be a separate island. Originally part of Vlieland, it later became detached and drifted closer to Texel. The area was full of eider ducks and seagulls, whose eggs were collected for bakeries in Amsterdam, which explains the name ‘Eierland’ (Egg land). Did you know this is also the name of the lighthouse? The northern point of the island is still a popular area for vagrants and rare migrating birds. The landscape is beautiful and varied.
Are you visiting the lighthouse? Then extend this with a lovely walk through Eierland and the gardens.
Distance in kilometres: 5.7

In addition to the above walking routes, we have collected a number of other routes for you (in Dutch):

A visit to Texel is not complete without a Wadden Sea tour. The Waddenvereniging (The Wadden Society) organises various excursions almost every day during the summer months. These include Wadden Sea tours, trawler trips, dawn excursions, children’s beach days and Wadden tasting events.
