History of De Cocksdorp

The village was created by-and owes its name to-Mr N.J. de Cock. He took the initiative to reclaim the salt marsh between 'old' Texel and the island of Eijerland. Because a small harbour was built here after the reclamation, people soon moved in and houses were built. N.J. de Cock also built an 11-kilometre-long dyke together with enterprising people and 1,500 workers. This ensured that part of the Wadden area was diked in. And so the Eierland polder was created.
